Newspaper Ripped For Using ‘White Power’ Photo in ‘Harry Potter’ Roundup

The New York Times published a photo of Daniel Radcliffe costumed as a neo-Nazi. After using a photo of the actor to represent what they were doing ten years ago, the newspaper received a lot of reaction.

  • The New York Times tweeted an image of Daniel Radcliffe dressed up as a Nazi with the caption “So what are the Hogwarts alumni up to now?”. The newspaper did not state that the photo was from a movie, but failed to give any context as to where it came from.
  • The picture is from the film “Imperium” where “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe stars in a story inspired by true events wherein a young FBI agent infiltrates a group of white supremacists bent on committing acts of terrorism. So, the real story is mainly different.
  • Many people have taken to social media to express their anger at the newspaper’s decision. They also put a question mark that why these kinds of carelessness?
  • One individual protested, “Deeply irresponsible picture choice to use without context,” while another urged for the staffer responsible to be sacked.

Following the murder of George Perry Floyd Jr., an African-American man, by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020, things have become a major concern for the public. Additionally, it is a white policewoman who shoots a little African youngster, which is another example of US police carelessness. And that’s the main reason Fans of Daniel Radcliffe who portrayed the series’ title character were not happy about the image choice by The Times.
