Activist today united in calls to elect an anti-war government led by Jeremy Corbyn and condemned Nato and US President Donald.
More than 500 NHS doctors, nurses and other workers have written to Donald Trump to ask him to take the health service off the table during UK-US trade talks.
In their letter to the US president, however, the NHS workers wrote: “We are alarmed to read about documents revealed on Tuesday that showed the US government have been in secret talks with our government about the opening up of British markets after Brexit and what this could mean for the future of our National Health Service”.
“We are particularly concerned about the conversations over patents for pharmaceutical products and the potential for huge drug price increases for the NHS and the rest of the world.”
On this visit to the UK, the US President was asked about the possibility of the NHS being opened up to US pharmaceutical companies post-Brexit.
Speaking to journalists in central London, Mr. Trump said he “never even thought about” including the NHS in a future trade deal with the UK.
He said: “No, not at all, I have nothing to do with it. Never even thought about it, honestly.”
Mr. Trump added: “I don’t even know where that rumor started.
“We have absolutely nothing to do with it and we wouldn’t want to if you handed it to us on a silver platter, we want nothing to do with it.”
Jeremy Corbyn has responded to Mr. Trump’s comments, saying he is “pleased” that the US president has said he wants “nothing to do with” the NHS but questioned: “If that’s the case, why have these talks gone on for two years? “Why have they been kept secret?”
Mr. Trump’s comments came moments after he told reporters that “I would stay out of the election” on 12 December “because I don’t want to complicate it”. “I could work with anybody”.
But Trump branded Boris Johnson by saying that he was a “fan of Brexit” and he thought PM Boris Johnson was “very capable”.
