Bollywood Legend Rishi Kapoor Passes Away

Indian famous Rishi Kapoor has passed away at the age of 67 at a private hospital in Mumbai at 8:45 am today, following a long battle with cancer. Juthy Saha reports.

This news comes within less than 24 hours after the death of renowned Bollywood Star Irrfan Khan.

Veteran personality Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and returned to India last September after a year-long treatment in New York.

His brother Randhir Kapoor confirmed: “Yes, he is no more”. He was taken to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation hospital on Wednesday morning after he complained of breathing difficulties.

Rishi Kapoor debuted as a child actor in 1970 in his father Raj Kapoor’s film, Mera Naam Joker. He played the romantic lead in dozens of films for over two decades with immense success.

Rishi Kapoor is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, and children Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor. Tributes have been pouring in for Kapoor from his fellow Bollywood actors, politicians and fans.

Amitabh Bachchan who worked in several hit films with Kapoor tweeted: “He’s GONE .. ! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !”

Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi also tweeted about his death: “This is a terrible week for Indian cinema, with the passing of another legend, actor Rishi Kapoor. A wonderful actor, with a huge fan following across generations, he will be greatly missed.”

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “It seems like we’re in the midst of a nightmare… it’s heartbreaking. He was a legend, a great co-star and a good friend of the family. My thoughts and prayers with his family.”

Rajinikanth posted on Twitter, “Heartbroken … Rest In Peace … my dearest friend #RishiKapoor”

Priyanka Chopra shared on Twitter, “My heart is so heavy. This is the end of an era. #Rishisir your candid heart and immeasurable talent will never be encountered again… My condolences to Neetu maam, Ridhima, Ranbir and the rest of the family. Rest in peace Sir.”
