New Hair Exhibition Supported by Industry Leaders

HAIR

Unique, fun, useful…Beehives Bobs and Blowdries is a worldwide exhibition that will be making its debut this year in Barnsley, hometown of its co-curator Andrew Barton.

Many industry leaders have agreed to support the event; sponsorships  have been confirmed with L’Oréal Professionnel, Banbury Postiche, Andrew Barton London and BaByliss PRO – huge names in the beauty industry!

This dedicated convention was developed to explore the cultural significance of hair fashion and, as a result, will take into consideration the rise of the celebrity hairdresser, their hair styling techniques and the hair salon over the past 50 years.

It will touch on hair-styling innovations, salon environments, technological breakthroughs and the influence of fashion trends and popular culture whilst tracing the economic and social shifts which have influenced iconic hairstyles over the decades.

This exploration can be achieved with the presence of archival photography and modern and historical objects from collections including those of Unilever, Wella, Sassoon, Dome Hair Products, Lambeth Archives and Wakefield Museums.

Beehives Bobs and Blowdries doesn’t just focus on hairstyles from the past; the exhibit will also outline recent advancements in hair design, technology and creativity and what salons and customers can expect in the future.

Andrew commented: “There is an amazing story to be told about hair and hairdressing its meaning and its importance to fashion and identity this is a professional dream come true for me to be involved in this unique project and collaborate with such talented co curators to bring this project to life. My work as a hairdresser whether it be salon or catwalk photo shoot or presenting education has always been influenced by key moments in the history of hairdressing and the fashion influences so it’s an honour to bring these inspirations together in Beehives Bobs and Blowdries.”

The exhibition, which is the first of its kind, will run in accordance with an opening day celebratory fundraising dinner, dance and fashion show, which will in turn raise money for The Princes Trust charity, of which Andrew is one of their Celebrity Ambassadors, alongside The Civic’s #CONNECT project.

Beehives Bobs and Blowdries will run from 17 February to 7 April before touring London and across the country. The Gallery is free entry and open from 10am-5pm Tuesday – Saturday.
