Extraction was a massive hit for Netflix when it debuted in 2020. It’s only been a matter of time before a sequel crashes its way onto the streamer. During Netflix’s TUDUM exhibition, a new video featuring Hemsworth confirmed that Extraction 2 is officially on the way.
The first Extraction film, directed by Sam Hargrave (The Mandalorian) and written by Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame). The film was followed black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) on a mission to recover the kidnapped son of a violent drug lord in Bangladesh. Even when Chris Hemsworth isn’t power bombing high-school-aged youngsters into the dirt, it’s a truly chaotic flick, with a stunning 12-minute one-shot race through the city that quickly became the buzz of the action world.
Again, Hargrave is going to have to up the action in the sequel, which is exactly what the director intends to accomplish. Hargrave told Collider in January that he was chomping at the bit to boost the action bar.
On Saturday, Hemsworth was on hand at Netflix’s Tulum fan event to break the news about the upcoming Extractions 2. He said,
“If you thought our first film pushed the limits, wait until you see what Sam and I have planned for this next installment.”
Extraction 2 has yet to be given a release date by Netflix. Hemsworth’s next appearance will be in the upcoming Marvel Studios Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released on May 6, 2022.
At the end of 2020, Joe Russo exposed Extraction 2 was on track for a Fall 2021 production start, so expect the film to drop on Netflix next year. Until then, check out the announcement video below:
