Netflix Cancels Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘The Punisher’

Netflix canceled two remaining superhero properties from the Marvel universe “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” on Monday.
The double cancellation rounds out Netflix’s purge of Marvel content, which began in October with the axing of Iron Fist, then Luke Cage , and finally Daredevi in November.
“The Punisher” season two just premiered a few weeks back and “Jessica Jones” third season is set to premiere later this year, which now feels like a downer when audiences will be watching a series they know will not continue.
The third season of Jessica Jones, which has finished production, will still air, but that will be the swan song for the Marvel shows on Netflix.
According to a report, “‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ will not return for a third season on Netflix,” the company said Monday in a briefing stated “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.”
Netflix announced its partnership with Marvel to much fanfare in 2013, committing to four ongoing shows plus The Defenders. After Frank Castle appeared in season two of Daredevil, The Punisher spun off into its own series.
A social-media analysis by Crimson Hexagon in October, after “Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist” were canceled, showed that buzz around the two shows, as well as for “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” had fallen dramatically over time .
“We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning”, stated by an official Netflix Statement.
