Nazrul Festival to take place in February

This year Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sanstha, Arunranjani, and the Gulshan Society will be hosting jointly, a two-day gala event monumentalizing the work of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. It will be held on 11-12 February at the capital’s Gulshan Society Lake Park. It is free and open for all upon online registration.

In this event, renowned artists from Bangladesh and West Bengal, including Sreeradha Bandyopadhyay, Susmita Goswami, Srikanta Acharya, Manomay Bhattacharyya, Jayati Chakraborty, and Iman Chakraborty will be performing songs of Nazrul.

An audio collection of 125 Nazrul songs composed by veteran and arising artists from Bangladesh and West Bengal will be going to release at the event. An online archive consisting of over 2,000-2,200 songs by Nazrul in authentic form, will also be launched.

Event convenor and an Ekushey Padak winning Nazrul sangeet guru, Khairul Anam Shakil said, “It is compulsory to preserve and promote the work of our National Poet for the next generation in new, authentic form.” “The Gulshan Society is honored and gladdened to co-host this event,” said Barrister Sarwat Siraj, the society’s secretary-general. The event will be dedicated to the memory of the famed litterateur Dr. Rafiqul Islam, who was one of the supporters of the event.

In addition to songs, the event will contain poetry recitation, dance performances, and an exhibit on Nazrul’s life. This program has already conducted workshops in 28 districts in Bangladesh to promote the performance of Nazrul songs in authentic form.
