Workers in France go on a nationwide strike. The workers in France go on a nationwide strike in their demand for higher wages. French workers took part in a nationwide strike yesterday. They demand higher wages to survive the tremendous cost of living crisis. The strikes that are happening in the schools and the transport strike have a purpose. It serves as a continuation of the industrial action that ruptured France’s major refineries. There had been a severe energy shortage.


Transport Minister Clement Beaune: Opinion on Strike


Transport Minister Clement Beaune has said there was severe discontinuation of the national railway services. Half of the trains got canceled. The transport facility including the bus and the suburban train were also severely affected because of the strike. The action of walking out from the sectors including the civil service, health, and food serves as a blow. The workers with their decision of walking out have enabled a challenge for president Emmanuel Marcon.

The president was re-elected in May and now everything seems challenging. A representative from the FNME mine and the energy union is affiliated with the union federation of the CGT. He said this week that they have already started conducting the strikes. 10 French nuclear power plants have been hit by the strike. They have also delayed the maintenance work at 13 sectors. Yesterday a mass walkout happened as workers from several refineries chose to go on strike.

Total Energies: Vote


The refineries operated by the energy giant Total Energies have voted for an extension to continue the four-week-old strike action. They didn’t work on the government’s instructions to get back to work instead they defied it. The members of the oil refineries are demanding 10 percent of the pay rise as there is a mounting cost of living crisis. The firm made huge profits as they signed deals with other two unions last week.


Finance Minister Bruno Le Marie: Opinion on Strike


French Finance Minister Bruno Le Marie opined on Monday that the time for the negotiations are over. The governed ordered the workers in Northern France at the Mardyck depot to return to work. The workers at the Feyzin depot which is in the South-east. The workers there cannot be threatened with the same tactic of the strong-arm. 130,000 people were on the streets of Paris on Sunday to protest against the price rise.
