Music Monday: Top music releases of this week!

Our music editor Adam Humphries brings you the review of the best releases of this week, including ‘Calling my name’ and ‘NPD’.

Darkness Falls’ Josephine Philip releases dreamy debut solo single ‘Call My Name’

Denmark-based singer-songwriter, composer and performer, Josephine Philip, formerly of Darkness Falls and JaConfetti, Favelachic, and Dullen & Dyken member has released her solo single, Call My Name, and it comes with a message and love and longing.

Hailing from Copenhagen, Josephine originally began working on this song in the Winter of 2019 and throughout the last year of 2020 music process of putting it altogether accelerated. She has worked with a large number of artists, choirs, producer and musicians such as Lasse Martinussen, Christian Loffler, Philip Schneider and Anders Trentenmoller to name but a few.

Throughout the process of recording, she gathered much inspiration from a collective of creatives ranging from artistic expressionists, choir works, contemporary art performance, jazz standards, experimental film, music, literature and classical music, Josephine’s practically created something of a musical masterpiece. And in a BIG WAY.

And they say that creativity is almost non-existent. Be prepared to be both shocked and amazed. For a song that is 4 minutes and 15 seconds long it starts off as it means to continue, on a melodic, slow steady pace with plenty of soul and beautifully haunting lyrics. Overall, a rare gem.

Kety Fusco create hypnotic warped harp soundscapes in her ‘Ma Gnossienne’ video

Ma Gnossienne is the new single from Swiss-Italian harpist and composer, Kety Fusco, and along with it she has a video to accompany it.

Originally done by “Gnossienne N.1” by Erik Satie”, Kety’s take is of a modern re-interpretation and is also something of a personal touch to it. Collaborating with Delta Electric Harps from Salvi Harps, they have taken Kety on as an Official Ambassador and with their successful work hailing back to her debut album, Dazed, it looks as though things are only set to go onwards and upwards for her.

As an artist, she has played more than 80 live concerts all across Europe, and if that weren’t enough, she is also making the first-ever sound library of non-traditional Harp sounds. Judging by the sound of this new single, not only has she got her work cut out but she’s also creating something, invigorating and genius.

Scotland’s Laurence Murray Project release swirling soul-psych-pop ‘NPD’

Scottish-based four-piece, Laurence Murray Project have released their new single, NPD, and it’s a 4 minute 22 second delicious mix of psychedelic and rock fusion. And in all fairness, it’s actually quite the corker.

When you listen very carefully to the lyrics of the song it delves right in there on the themes of deceit, delusion and infidelity. And if you like your psychedelic rock riffs then there is a nice one that be heard in the final minute and 22 seconds of the track, and it’s actually quite genius. A good way of finishing the track.

Front-man, Laurence Murray’s vocal help create the near-sombre atmosphere of the track in that they are both smoky and gritty whilst carrying a wide range of emotions. Whilst the instrumental side of the track creates the ideal backdrop of the tune.

Created in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, NPD is a clever call back to the ’60s and 70’s rock that helped created and shape the music scene of both then and today. Taken from their debut album, Still, which is due out later this year.
