Our music editor Adam Humphries brings you the review of the best releases of this week, including ‘Headfirst’ and ‘Until we meet again‘.
Atomic Bronco goes ‘Headfirst’ with high energy brooding punk single
London-based Alt rock/Modern Indie outfit, Atomic Bronco, have released their next single from their album, Headfirst, and it’s definitely a musical feast for the ears.
Now, this little tune is one of those rare music gems you get where it’s a combination of two genres that normally shouldn’t actually go together yet somehow manage to actually do just that. For a number that is 2 minutes and 57 seconds long, it’s has in fact got that oomph and they are in all the right places that you would expect them to be.
The song starts off on a soft, casual-paced acoustic beat before going forward several notches and becoming more energetic and all hyped up.
Other than that, Headfirst, is that somewhat amazing blend of two normally opposing genres of acoustic and punk coming into one. Whether you are a fan of punk or acoustic (or secretly both) put this one on your playlist.
MUCA presents Alice SK feat. Roberto Menescal – ‘Until We Meet Again’!
Until We Meet Again is the latest single by Brazilian musician, Murillo Sguillaro, better known by his working/stage name, Muca, and is based in London. Armed with his musical collaborator, Alice SK, as well as an exceptional musical guest, Roberto Menescal, who is also one of the pioneers of Bossa Nova.
With a mixture of London indie sounds and acoustic guitar rhythms, that plus a musical recording session in the Brazilian capital of Rio de Janeiro, here’s what the result was.
For a track that is 4 minutes and 17 seconds long, it does quite a good job of transporting you to Ipanema Beach and even further away. And that’s just in the mind.
Alice K, who’s vocals appear on this track are beautifully haunting and melodic and are perfectly suited in such a way that is simply made for it. As a singer, she is simply flawless and works the track in a beautifully effortless way.
We might not be able to visit that tropical sunny beach paradise at the moment, but until then here’s a lovely fantasy substitute, courtesy of this song.
Scotland’s Laurence Murray Project release swirling soul-psych-pop ‘NPD’
Scottish-based four-piece, Laurence Murray Project have released their new single, NPD, and it’s a 4 minute 22 second delicious mix of psychedelic and rock fusion. And in all fairness, it’s actually quite the corker.
When you listen very carefully to the lyrics of the song it delves right in there on the themes of deceit, delusion and infidelity. And if you like your psychedelic rock riffs then there is a nice one that be heard in the final minute and 22 seconds of the track, and it’s actually quite genius. A good way of finishing the track.
Front-man, Laurence Murray’s vocal help create the near-sombre atmosphere of the track in that they are both smoky and gritty whilst carrying a wide range of emotions. Whilst the instrumental side of the track creates the ideal backdrop of the tune.
Created in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, NPD is a clever call back to the ’60s and 70’s rock that helped created and shape the music scene of both then and today. Taken from their debut album, Still, which is due out later this year.
