Music Monday: 4 Selected Songs of This Week!

Adam Humphries, the music editor for WhatsOn, recommends some recently released upbeat music to you. Let’s together, create a playlist and dance the rest of the week away. The week’s top playlist is presented here.

I Dream To Sleep

Scottish music legend Ian Donaldson proudly celebrates the 40th Anniversary of his single, I Dream To Sleep, and has reworked it. I admit I’ve not heard the original version but was pleasantly taken aback by this newer version. Nevertheless he has got a really good sleek voice that makes an enchanting audio landscape If you’re a fan of Musicals or of Michael’s Buble or Ball chances are you’ll get much pleasure out of it.

Surrender

Originating from both Europe and the Middle East but now based in London, eclectic rockers band, The Gulps, have put together the official video for their latest single, Surrender. Up until now I’ve never heard of these guys but really enjoy this single, and the video has got that element of weirdness which is strangely entertaining. What’s great about the video is that it takes creative imagination back to the basics and just shows that big budgets aren’t always an essential

The Mermaid and The Sailor

Liverpudlian rising star Hannah Rose Platt has joined up with British music maestro Ed Harcourt for their duet single, The Mermaid and The Sailor. One of the great things about seeing two different music generations coming together is that something great is guaranteed to come out of it. The song is more of a story than a single with Hannah and Ed playing the central characters. She is a Mermaid and he’s a Sailor, and the two personify addiction and addict. One can’t stop the need for the other.

Natalie Gray opens up on mental health with ‘The Me I Pretend To Be’, out now via Aztec Records!.

Talking about mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and PTSD is never an easy subject so full respect to Hannah for even talking about it. The title of the song practically speaks for itself as she refers to a idiosyncratic version of what she’d like to be. If the music from The 1975 and 80’s Madonna were to be blended into new artist material this would be the result, and as someone who’s listened to both that is pure musical heaven.
In The Me That I Pretend To Be Hannah clearly talks about being anyone but herself so as to escape her issues that plague her. Either way a great track.
