MTV’s 2020 VMAs is set for August

MTV’s VMAs (Video Music Awards), is set to take place in New York in August with “limited or no audience” reports Anika Khan

The annual award ceremony, also known as the ‘Super Bowl for Youth’, is held every year since 1984 to honour the best in the music videos in the industry.

The future of this year’s event has so far been uncertain due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Andre Cuomo of NY gave the network a go-ahead to proceed with the ceremony on June 29, confirming that the event can take place as long as social distancing procedures are maintained.

Bruce Gillmer, the President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events for ViacomCBS Media Networks, in a statement said: “We’re elated to bring the 2020 VMAs back to NYC, the cultural mecca of the world where music and entertainment are woven into the DNA”.

A statement from MTV said: “Show producers, alongside Barclays Center management, have been working closely with state and local officials to implement best practices for everyone involved”.

MTV also intends to feature live performances across NYC during the ceremony to honour the resilience of the city during these tough times.
