Mohalla Assi is an upcoming Indian Bollywood satirical comedy drama film, based on the commercialization of the pilgrimage city, and fake gurus who lure the visitors and tourists. Assi Ghat is a burning ghat on the river banks of Ganges flowing into the middle of Banaras, India.
Sunny Deol plays the lead role of Sanskrit teacher and an orthodox religious priest (Pundit) while Sakshi Tanwar plays his wife. He decides to take matters in his hand when the locals of holy town Banaras stars to lure foreign tourists with fake spiritual gurus.
It is the struggle with very rigid religious principles in a time when things are changing real fast. Covering a wide range of topics such as globalization, burst of foreign tourism in the city and classes between various Brahmin families over these changes.
This movie is based on Based on Dr. Kashinath Singh’s Hindi novel ‘Kashi Ka Assi’ and the film is set in the post-independence period . After so much delay, the film is finally getting released on 16 November .
