In many ways Be The Cowboy straddles the void between concept album and a great leap forward for an artist who has threatened to break big but has yet to do so. Japanese American Mitski is clearly bursting at the seams with good ideas and talent, it’s just that sometimes you feel it all comes out like an unchecked hose pipe. What’s great about Be The Cowboy is that it has a great atmosphere which binds the songs together. You can sense the creative thinking behind every part of this work. Finally it seems Mitski may be heading in the right direction.
