Visionary footballer Lionel Messi has inspired millions of footie fans around the world. Now, he has an opulent circus show to add to that list.
Cirque de Soleil sets out to tell “the story of a young man with boundless ambition to overcome all obstacles in becoming the greatest number 10 in the world”.
It premiered in Barcelona back in October at Parc del Fòrum. It’s set to tour parts of Spain and South America until January 2020.
It’s a 90-minute show that’s divided into two halves, just like a football match. Even the stage is a football field. The circus performers include acrobats, human jugglers, dancers and contortionist. Messi10 also includes a cast of talented football freestylers including Catalina Vega, who was approached by Atlético Madrid before opting to elevate Messi’s legacy through performance.
It’s not a straight narrative like a play, but a series of thematic explorations of teamwork, success and overcoming hardship. To underscore this, world-famous clips of Messi’s professional football career will be played in the background. It’s a family friendly event that’ll stun kids and adults alike!
