The horrific Islamophobic terrorist attack on a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, that has left 49 dead is a shocking reminder that the global anti-racist movement must take urgent action.
On Saturday 16 March, tens of thousands will take to the streets marking the #WorldAgainstRacism global day of action. Marches are planned in London, Glasgow and Cardiff, in New York, Washington DC and Florida, in Brazil, and across Europe including Hungary, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Catalonia, Ireland, France, Belgium, Greece, Norway, Sweden and Canada and Australia. There will be demonstrations in over 60 cities.
One of UNISON’s main aims is to help workers fight for fairness and equality in the workplace and beyond. Challenging discrimination and winning equality is at the heart of everything UNISON does. This event, organised by Stand Up to Racism and Love Music Hate Racism, will demonstrate our confidence in our values of respect and equality for all, for multiculturalism, strong cohesive communities and peace. It will demonstrate our solidarity in action against the politics of hate, against bigotry, racism and discrimination of all kinds, and against the politics of fascism. The event is supported by the TUC and UNISON. Demonstrations will be taking place in London, Cardiff and Glasgow.
Racism and fascism are on the rise. The threat is huge, but together we can turn the tide. On UN anti-racism day we need the biggest, broadest international display of opposition to racism and fascism we have ever seen. Join the march to show that the anti-racist, anti-fascist majority is on the march and we will not stop until the rise of racism and the far right has been defeated.
