Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Sophie is getting ready for the grand opening of the new Hotel Bella Donna. While the guests start trickling in she looks back at her mother’s life and how she came to meet all of her potential dads and to be pregnant and alone on Kalokairi. When Sophie discovers she is pregnant she feels a special closeness to her mother and slowly starts to understand how her mother must have felt.
When it was announced there would be a second Mamma Mia! many people probably sighed and thought “is it really necessary?”. I must admit I was one of those people. However, watching the sequel, I realised that maybe it wasn’t necessary, but it worked. If you are looking for a film to give you plenty of summer vibes and a surge of optimism look no further! Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is fun and is the perfect way to enjoy a hot summer afternoon.
All of the characters are back for this second outing of the incredibly successful ABBA musical, along with their younger versions who bring to life the memories of Donna’s past. Some of the ABBA hits which featured in the first film are back accompanied by a whole new set of less-well-known ABBA tunes to add a new flavour to the narrative. It is very amusing how the lyrics fit in with the film’s plot.
Funny, entertaining and summery, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is thoroughly enjoyable and a good example of escapist cinema. Set in the beautiful Greek islands it will immediately make you want to go on holiday!
