Liam Gallagher announces free gig for NHS workers

Liam Gallagher, former frontman of Oasis, has organised a free concert for NHS workers, with tickets for the event selling out within a few hours on Wednesday morning. Tanzia Haq reports.

Gallagher announced today that Primal Scream will be joining the lineup, with more performers to be announced before the show takes place at London’s O2 Arena in October.

The concert announcement comes after other artists like Manic Street Preachers, Rick Astley and The Script confirmed free gigs to thank NHS workers along with donations to the UK health service.

Taking to Instagram, Primal Scream shared a poster for the concert, writing, “Proud to be part of this concert for our heroic NHS workers organised by our friend Liam Gallagher.”

On his own Instagram, Gallagher wrote, “I want to thank everyone who applied for tickets. Due to high demand the event is now sold out. Congratulations to the people who got their hands on some, it’s going to be an amazing night of Rock n Roll for the NHS!”

Gallagher is also one of the many British artists to donate items to the ‘Help the NHS’ raffle campaign. The singer has donated signed Adidas trainers, tickets for future gigs, a signed Pretty Green parka and a signed tambourine. Other artists to participate in the raffle are members of the Arctic Monkeys, The Chemical Brothers and Snow Patrol.
