It’s an uncomfortable discussion and an even more uncomfortable procedure, however, it Is something all women need to know, discuss and take advantage of.
Our NHS system offers free cervical screenings to all women every 3 years from the age of 25 years. However, over the last few years, the amount of women who actually attend these appointments has dropped, with only 69.6% of women aged between 25 – 49 being tested in 2017.
We all know it’s not fun to do but it’s certainly important to a woman’s reproductive health.
If you’re you’re unsure on what a cervical screening test is: it’s a test that checks to see if there’s any abnormal cells. Simply put, it’s a cervical cancer detector.
Why is it important? Intimate health is something people don’t like to discuss but around 5,000 cases of cervical cancer are prevented each year through testing.
So, what do you do when you get your invitation? Simply call up your doctor’s surgery and if they offer the test themselves, they’ll book you in. If not, they’ll advise accordingly.
