Rapper Killer Mike revealed on 9th October that he has launched the first digital bank for the Black and Latinx community. Puza Snigdha reports.
The rapper and activist, Killer Mike has teamed up with civil rights icon Ambassador Andrew Young and media executive Ryan Glover to create the first-ever digital bank for the Black and Latinx people.
Mike, Andrew Young and Ryan Glover has raised $3 million for Greenwood.
“This is our time to take back control of our lives and our financial future. That is why we launched Greenwood, modern banking for the culture,” said Glover.
Mike has taken the step aiming to revive the spirit of the Oklahoma community by which the black and brown people can have a fair field and to provide equal financial services.
“Today, a dollar circulates for 20 days in the white community but only six hours in the Black community,” Mike says.
The digital bank service will start around January 2021 and already receiving account requests which is increasing every day.
The bank will provide $10,000 loan for small business-owners on a monthly wise. Greenwood also reveals the plan of providing five free meals to families in need for every customer to sign up to their service. Every card swipe will add fund to the United Negro College, Goodr, and the NAACP.
