On August 24 in 2010, Katy Perry released her third studio album – Teenage Dream. The album was a huge success, and to this day has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. This album impacted pop music greatly and many of the tracks still stand as defining pop songs of the 2010s.
Teenage Dream spawned five number-1 hit singles in the US, a record that only two albums hold – Teenage Dream and Michael Jackson’s Bad. The songs stand the test of time, tracks such as ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Firework’ are some of the best-selling pop songs ever.
The albums other hits include ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ and ‘E.T.’ are masterclasses in pop-music, with infectious hooks and production that stands the test of time – these songs sound brilliant today, 10 years on. With this album, Perry solidified her name in the history books forever.
Perry became synonymous for great visuals with this album, the iconic cotton-candy themed album cover is instantly recognisable. Along with the cover, the music videos for the singles helped Perry create a world for this era that pop music fans became entranced with.
The album was supported with a re-release, The Complete Confection in 2012, which produced two more hits: ‘Part of Me’ and ‘Wide Awake’ – solidifying this album as one to remember, rammed full of pop classics.
Katy Perry is still a huge star – fans are currently anticipating Perry’s first child, due any day now, after announcing her pregnancy earlier this year with Orlando Bloom. Perry’s fifth album, Smile, is also due this week.
