Tourists are being allowed into Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday, two months after the government ban.
On Monday, governor Satya Pal Malik announced this following a security review meeting with the advisers and the chief secretary.
In August, after the revocation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the government issued an advisory asking tourists and pilgrims to leave the Valley because of terror threats.
As a result, thousands of tourists, workers and students had to leave the place. During the first week of August more than 20,000 tourists left Jammu and Kashmir.
The administration also reopened higher secondary schools, colleges and universities on Wednesday.
In Srinagar, security forces were stationed outside the prestigious Sri Pratap College and were allowing students on the campus after checking their identity cards.
“I came here to get the study material and not to attend the classes. The teachers told us that the classes can only start once the situation becomes normal,” a chemistry student said to the reporters, who did not wish to mention his name.
Citizens hope the situation will return to normal soon.
