JOHNNY MCEVOY AT THE CORE THEATRE, SOLIHULL

Sometimes, we have to wait a long time for the things that we are
looking forward to. Thanks to the situation in which we all found
ourselves, I had waited for two years to see Johnny McEvoy, my favourite
Irish singer/songwriter on his first English tour for a long time.

I had last attended one of Johnny’s concerts in Belfast in 1999, the year
before I took the boat across the Irish Sea. It was with eager
anticipation that I looked forward to the evening at the Core.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable time, as Johnny sang many of the songs
with which he has been associated over the years and shared the stories
behind the songs and told anecdotes about a career that has now lasted
over fifty-five years.

The programme was a mixture of traditional songs,
songs composed by other artists and Johnny’s own compositions. He is an
exceptional songwriter, with a great gift for combining sensitive and
meaningful lyrics with pleasant melodies and has been a particular
influence upon my own songwriting.

After the show, it was great to catch up with Johnny and his manager,
Darren. Many thanks to Darren for organizing the visit, memorabilia etc.
A great night and certainly well worth the two year wait. For up and
coming dates on the island of Ireland and any further information,
please check out Johnny’s Facebook page and website.
