Joe Biden wins US electoral College votes

The electoral college officially declared Joe Biden’s victory in the US Presidential election 2020. The new president said that the “will of the people has prevailed”. Anika Khan reports.

  • The final four electoral votes from Hawaii ended Trump’s unprecedented attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
  • Biden said that this election tested the resilience of American democracy, describing it as one of “one of the most amazing demonstrations of civic duty we’ve ever seen in our country”.
  • Almost a week after the election day, Joe Biden led the final tally with 306- 232 electoral votes.
  • This followed a baseless campaign by Trump who accused that the election was rigged and claimed voter frauds without any solid proofs.
  • Donald Trump had lost by a difference of 7 million popular votes.
  • Despite the clear win of Biden, Trump refused to concede and instead sowed doubt amongst his supporters.
  • After the final results today, Trump is left with no cards down his sleeve but accepts a sour defeat.
  • Joe Biden is going to become the 46 presidents of the United States when he takes his oath on 20 January.

After the news came in on Monday, Biden said, “our democracy – pushed, tested, threatened – proved to be resilient, true and strong”.
