Is diet causing your heartburn?

Whatson-Guide-225-x125-v2

Heartburn can be caused by several lifestyle factors, including what you eat and drink.

Described as a burning sensation in the chest sometimes accompanied by a recurring cough or hiccups, bad breath and an unpleasant sour taste in the mouth, heartburn is caused by stomach acid travelling up towards the throat.1

If you know or suspect your diet is causing or making your heartburn worse but you’re not sure what your food and drink triggers are, try keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks to help identify them.

Known triggers include fatty and spicy food, tomatoes, citrus fruit, onions, garlic, chocolate, coffee and alcohol.1

If any of these appear to be at the root of your heartburn, it’s best to eat them in moderation or cut them out altogether.
