Ikea Founder Dies Peacefully Aged 91

Ingvar Kamprad

Ingvar Kamprad, the entrepreneurial creative responsible for the formation of interior design giant Ikea, sadly passed away on Saturday 27 January.
The established businessman, who founded the Ikea furniture chain in 1943, died peacefully at his home in Sweden, reports have revealed.
Ingvar has been fondly described as “one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the 20th century”, and the longevity of his involvement with this recognisable company is a testament to his commitment and passion for interior design.
Aged 91, Ingvar developed the Ikea brand at the tender age of 17, creating the name from his own initials, and has since turned it into a fundamental success.
Ikea is best known for its fully functional and carefully constructed flatpack furniture, and customers have been using products from the store for decades, assembling items of furniture with ease.
The chain is now the largest of its kind, and has dominated the industry with its network of stores (there are 412 bases situated across 49 countries).
Torbjörn Lööf, Chief Executive and President of Inter Ikea Group, commented: “We are deeply saddened by Ingvar’s passing. We will remember his dedication and commitment to always side with the many people. To never give up, always try to become better and lead by example.”
