Home Office Could Face Court Injunction Over Pushback Policy

Twenty years old men’s dead body was found on Friday by the UK Border Force Security Guards, who attempted to cross the Channel.

A trade union representing the Border Force staff claims the pushback policy from the government is behind this dramatic death.

The union also attempts to seek a court injunction against the Home Office to stop ordering the Channel Pushbacks.

Civil Service Union PCS and Care4Calais expressed a negative impression about the policy made by the Home office.

Legal action was launched on the court last month about the legality of the tactic.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “The arrogance of this government is breathtaking”.

“The legality of the pushbacks policy is before the High Court, and yet the ministers think they can instruct our members to carry out a morally reprehensible and potentially unlawful act,” he added.

Amnesty International UK Refugee and Migrant Rights director Steve Valdez-Symonds said, “Once again someone has lost their lives in tragic and avoidable circumstances, and our thoughts are with the family and friends suffering this devastating loss.”

He also said, “This tragedy is made all the more unbearable because of the refusal of governments on both sides of the Channel to address the needs and rights of people compelled to attempt these dangerous journeys.”

The Home Office is facing a total of three legal challenges over the policy.
