Heavy Snow Affects Drivers in Scotland

Heavy snow across Scotland caused many traffic disruption on Tuesday evening. Lanarkshire got the worst of it and drivers were stuck on the M74 as parts of the motorway were closed. It has since been reopened. The snow also caused power cuts.
Mountain rescue team Moffat were sent to the scene of the stagnated traffic to check that all the drivers and passengers stuck in the vehicles because of the extreme weather conditions were ok and to assist in any way they could.
Wintry conditions are meant to persist. The Met Office has issued an amber “be prepared”  warning so that people can plan and prepare for the snow and ice that will continue to affect parts of Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The weather conditions could cause power cuts and further traffic disruptions. Gritters are out doing what they can to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum and people can go about life as normally as possible under the circumstances.
It snowed through the night as far South as the Midlands. Residents of parts of Birmingham woke up to a light dusting of snow.
