Hayward Gallery Presents Drag & Body Politics

Hayward Gallery is a part of Southbank Centre and has a history of presenting work by the world’s most adventurous and innovative artists including major solo shows by both emerging and established artists and dynamic exhibitions.
Self-portraits and Body Politics is brought through a multitude of distinct voices rather than offering a specific narrative. The artists included in this exhibition explore key cultural shifts from the past 50 years – through drag. They address a diverse range of theory topics ranging from feminism to the AIDS crisis and post-colonial theory.
The exhibition focuses on self-expression, liberty and freedom. Challenging the preconceptions of identity, gender, politics and race – featuring the work of well established figures like Pierre Molinier, Cindy Sherman and Adam Christensen. A number of artists in the exhibition explore the idea of being neither one gender or the other, but rather something more ambiguous.
The exhibition will take place on the 22 Aug – 14 Oct.
