In this era, most of the people can’t think of starting a day without a coffee and for that coffee filter is one of the important equipment and credit of inventing the coffee filter goes to a housewife, Melitta Bentz, from Dresden, Germany.
Melitta lived in Dresden with her husband Johannes Emil along with her two sons. They belonged to a middle-class family as they owned a small business.
Melitta Bentz used to start her day with a cup of coffee but she was too irritated as the grounds of the coffee were going into her mouth with every sip. Every day she used different types of methods to make a clear, fresh coffee but failed.
However one day, she ripped a piece of blotting paper from her son’s school notebook and stuck it into an old tin pot in which she had punched some holes. She added ground coffee and poured hot water over it. The beverage dripped through the paper, straight into the cup.
Her invention came out of irritation in 1908. Within two years, she’d filed a patent on the design and set up shop with her husband and sons, cranking out filters for caffeine-craving Germans. Day by day, her life changed. Modern coffee filters are still of similar design.
