Grey’s Anatomy Renewed for Season 15

Grey’s Anatomy has officially been renewed for a 15th season, making the show one of the longest running medical shows in TV history, tying only with ER, which ran from 1994-2009 for the top spot.
Even after 14 seasons on the air, the show is still gaining traction in the ratings and continues in the ABC’s top. Only seven TV dramas have ever run for longer. The current season is actually the most-watched in four years.
Series creator Shonda Rhimes has recently signed a massive deal with Netflix so she will be moving on to create new content for them, but will still be serving as an Executive Producer on Grey’s.
Back in January Ellen Pompeo signed a rich new two-year deal that would keep the actress on board through a potential 16th season. However, Grey’s Anatomy will return next year without long-time cast members Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew, who will both exit at the end of season 14. Gina Davis will return for a guest spot as Dr. Nicole Herman. All the other series regulars will be back to the series.
The long-running medical drama revolves around the personal and professional lives of the surgical residents, fellows and attendings in the surgical wing of a fictional Seattle hospital. While the show has now been confirmed to continue, Ellen Pompeo has said that the season 14 finale will be “devastating with a side of absurdity”.
The renewal comes as news of a second Grey’s spinoff, Station 19, was announced earlier this year. The spin-off is said to focus on a team of firefighters and Grey’s character Ben Warren, played by the actor Jason George, will be taking up residence among the fire battling team.
It also spawned the successful spinoff Private Practice, which focused on Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and had its own six-season run that ended in 2013.
