France is one step ahead in this world cup to put another star on their Jersey after they beat Belgium’s Red Devils 1-0 in the World Cup semi-final in St Petersburg on Tuesday.
The Franch has reached the World Cup final for the first time since 2006 which book a place in the World Cup final against either Croatia or England.
Samuel Umtiti’s goal in the second half of Semi-final match secure the 1-0 win, consigning Belgium’s ‘golden generation’ to another bitter disappointment.
France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris produced a great save in each half, denying the potent Belgian attack of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku the chance to advance the country to its first major final.
“I am very happy for my players,” said Hugo Lloris, “It was hard against a very good Belgium team. I take my hat off to my players and my staff. Finals have to be won because we have still not got over the one we lost two years ago”.
At the final whistle, the France substitutes ran on the pitch to celebrate with the players, while manager Deschamps was mobbed by his staff before dancing around in a circle.
France started the tournament in Russia slowly, struggling for goals in the group stages but hit their stride in an impressive 4-3 victory against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the first knockout round.
“Unfortunately for us, the difference is just a dead-ball situation, a set play,” said Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, “The game was, as you can imagine, very close, very tight, and it was going to be decided on maybe the one that it could find that final touch in the box”.
