Fire kills 38 at an industrial wholesaler in China

A blazing fire has cost the life of 38 people at a company in China. Two other people were also injured in this fatal incident. The associated company is a dealer of chemicals and other industrial goods in central China’s Henan province. The local government of Anyang city stated it in a statement Tuesday.

It was reported that the fire took place at about 4:30 p.m. Monday. It took more than three and a half hours for the fighters to bring the situation under control.

Video footage on state broadcaster CCTV revealed flames and smoke coming out of a two-story building, engulfed by fire. In night-time footage, firefighters inspected the scarred, skeletal remains of the structure.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and no prior information from the industry has been given yet. It has been suspected that there were chemicals registered falsely and stored, with local officials found to hold a blind eye to the potential risk.
