Film Friday: Movies to watch this weekend!

This week, we wanted to pick 5 movies that you may have missed but are definitely worth a watch!

Little Joe

Little Joe follows Alice, a single mother and dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a special crimson flower, remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value: if kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, this plant makes its owner happy. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. They christen it ‘Little Joe.’ But as their plant grows, so too does Alice’s suspicion that her new creation may not be as harmless as its nickname suggests…

Ema

Ema is a Chilean drama film directed by Pablo Larraín from a screenplay by Guillermo Calderón and Alejandro Moreno. It stars Mariana Di Girolamo, Cristian Suares, Gael García Bernal, Paola Giannini, and Santiago Cabrera. This is a stylish and edgy indie movie that follows a dancer whose life goes into a tailspin after a dramatic event.

Mallrats

Looking for something a bit more classic to watch? This 90’s hit follows T.S.and his best friend, Brodie, who take a trip to the mall after their girlfriends break up with them. T.S.’s girlfriend, Brandi, is participating in a dating game show at the mall, which was the initial cause of their breakup. Meanwhile, Brodie’s ex, Rene, has begun dating sleazy store manager Shannon. T.S. and Brodie seek out ways to ruin the game show, hunted all the while by Brandi’s father, Jared!

Ludo

Anurag Basu is back with a dark comedy depicting the four stories that gets interwoven with one common threat. Abishekh Bachan did a Spectacular job with minimal dialogues. His chemistry with Inayat will definitely steal your heart.  Rajkumar Rao did a fabulous job with his comical timing.

Pankaj Treaty once again proved how wonderfully he can play every character with such ease. With some of the best punch lines, he is the sole reason; I have watched the movie two times already.

Brilliant script, crisp editing and spectacular performances from the ensemble cast the movie is whimsical, funny, dark and chaotic.

No Dorai

No Dorai is a Bangladeshi Drama film directed by Taneem Tahman Anshu. Set in Cox’z Bazar, the film follows the story of a young girl who wants to be a surfer. She needs to challenge the social norms that place Girls in an unfavorable position. No Dorai means “I am not afraid” in Chittagonian Dialect. Sunerah Binte Kamal and Sariful Razz stars in the lead roles of the movie.

The fresh Cinematography is praiseworthy. The movie shows that it is possible to create amazing movies in our country with our own resources. We might just need better scripts.
