Film Friday: Movies to watch on Netflix!

With all the new streaming services, there are so many options that it is hard to get lost in what to watch. Mark Goddard brings you a list of movies to watch on Netflix this weekend!

The half of it! ****

Directed by Alice Wu, the movie revolves around the life of a shy introverted student named Ellie Chu. Bullied for her race, Ellie Chu proves to be helpful to her classmates who take her help to write their paper. When Paul Musky approaches her to help him woo a girl through a letter, unreluctantly Chu agrees to help. Friendship blossoms around these two and soon they realize that they are involved in a messy love triangle. Both of them are in love with the same girl.

This is perhaps one of those high school movies, we should all go on aboard with. It is a fresh take on love and its different faces. It shows the possibility of soulmates to exist.

By the end of the movie, I am left torn to choose with whom should Ellie Chu to end up? Lea Mewis did an amazing job portraying the character of this multiple layered yet simple Ellie Chu who finds her soulmate both in a girl name Aster and a guy name Paul.

The Princess Switch 2 ***

Directed by Michael Rohl, the movie stars Vanessa Hudgen in the lead role as Duchhes Margaret. Margaret inherits the thrones to Montenaro but in the process falls out of touch with her boyfriend Kevin. Her double Princess Stacy (also played by Hudgen) tries to get these star-crossed lovers back together. Enters cousin Fiona ( their doppelganger)m putting off stacys plan and creates a triple mess.

The trailer pretty much has spilled the entire plot to the viewers. The story is predictable with a weak script but we get to see three Hudgen in one movie. I would definitely recommend it for a one time watch on Netflix.

Holidate ***

Holidate is a 2020 American rom-com holiday film. Directed by John Whitesell, the film stars, Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Jessica Capshaw, Andre Machelor, and Jake Manley to name a few. The festive feature film has become a hit on Netflix in the UK. The film has been reviewed as a guilty pleasure ahead of Christmas by fans. Sloane (Emma Roberts) is a single woman who is tired of her family’s constant nagging for not having a date for the holidays. She meets Jackson and agrees to be one another’s date for future holidays only.

Emma Robert is back on her elements in this movie. It is a one time watch on Netflix.

Let it Snow ****

This 2019 American Christmas comedy stars Maureen Johnson, John Green, and Lauren Myracle. The story is set during Christmas eve when a huge winter storm sweeps across a midwestern town where a group of high school students lives. Although the kids never shared any sort of bond before, they were bound to do so when they crossed paths during the storm. Soon they learn to accept each other and find true love amongst themselves.

It is the perfect movie for young adults to spend their free time during this holiday season. It is relatable, hilarious, and romantic. The creative, emotional, and well-written romance in “Let It Snow” makes it highly recommended for all audiences to watch.
