Film Friday: 5 Fantastic movies to watch this weekend!

For this week, our film editor Mark rounds up the list of the top five movies from 2020 that you should not miss out on!

Soul *****

Directed by Pete Docter the movie features the voice of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, and Angela Bassett. “Soul” tells the story of a high school music teacher Joe Gardner whose dream of playing at the best jazz club in NYC shatters when he meets his untimely demise.

Pixar Animation Studios teleports you from the streets of NYC to the cosmic realms to discover the answers about life. You will be forced to think about your purpose, your passion and what actually matters. This movie is a reminder that life is a onetime opportunity.

The Trial of Chicago 7 *****

The film tells the story of seven different people who were charged by the federal government with conspiracy. The seven were ringleaders of the protest. The charge they were facing was wrong and that follows an unfair trial presided by the belligerent Judge Hoffman and prosecuted by a reluctant but duty-bound Richard Schultz. The historical legal drama film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton.

Prepare for a suspenseful ride to watch the flawed heroes fight against a corrupt bureaucracy.

Wonder Woman 1984 *****

The American superhero film is directed by Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and more. It is a sequel of 2017’s Wonder Woman. Diana (Gal Gadot) was living a quiet life among the mortals in the 1980s. Soon she finds herself comforting Maxwell lord and the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses super human agility.

This is one of the best DC Comic films made so far. A fantastic sequel of the original Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot is captivating throughout the movie. The film is hopeful, heart-warming and breathtakingly WONDER-full!

Gondi ****

“Gondi” is a Bangladeshi romantic comedy directed by Fakhril Arefeen khan. It stars stars Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Suborna Mustafa, with Shuvashish Bhowmik, Majnun Mijan, Aparna Ghosh, Aman Reza and Payel Mukherjee in supporting roles. The movie revolves around the story of a 60-year-old widower, Azgar Ali who lives alone with his Driver the Capital City of Dhaka. He is suffering from dementia and one day accidently transfers a huge fund into his neighbor Rr Shamima’s account.  

The movie follows the emotional battle of parents and children starts with the two main characters whose worlds gradually becomes narrower.

The Midnight Sky *****

The movie is based on a novel ‘Good Morning, Midnight’ by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Under the direction of George Clooney, the science fiction film follows Augustine, a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe. The film received mixed reviews from critics. It features George Clooney as the leading character, along with Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo and many more.

It has enough action to give the viewers constant impression of life teetering on the edge of existence. The movie has received mixed reviews from the critics.
