‘F MINOR’, the uprising female band of Bangladesh

F Minor is a band of five female members. All five come from indigenous communities. Everyone is studying in different varsities and colleges of Dhaka. F Minor shares their views and talks about their band with Iffat Ara Munia.

Iffat Ara Munia: F Minor! What does your band name mean?

F Minor: F Minor is the name of a guitar chord. That is basically the name. However, F means all the powerful words like Female, Freedom, Fighter, Fantastic. That means the F Minor Band is a powerful group of women who sing songs of liberation and rights.

Iffat Ara Munia: Where do you want to see your band in the next five years?

F Minor:  Well, we all know establishing a band in a position, continuing properly and keeping phase with the public demands are more difficult than creating a new band. In the next five years we want to see us, skilled and adept musicians so that we can play and enrich perfect music in our list. It may help us to have a place in the first row’s bandlist in Bangladesh. With that we also dream to spread indigenous culture all over the world in the next few years like Bangladesh. As F Minor has become a family to us, so we want this bonding stronger between us for years & years.

Iffat Ara Munia: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

F Minor: We would like to collaborate with the band Joler gaan. This is an independent folk band with human stories song. As well as we also work on indigenous songs based on minor communities’ culture . Playing various types of non western instruments in Joler Gaan inspire us a lot since indigenous culture is also rich with folk instruments. Collaboration with their genre with unique instrumental songs may create something special. That’s why we are really eager to collaborate with this band.

Iffat Ara Munia: What do you want to do for our country?

F Minor: We all owe to our country. The most we can do for our country is we can contribute ourselves in many ways for the betterment of this country. Through music we share love, peace , and solidarity which may increase awareness in people. As we are a female band. We want to build a safe place for women here. We are already working on it. We also believe in civilization so that we can help people to make a more civilised nation.
