Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Justin Bieber & More Unite for Global Goal benefit Concert

Musicians such as Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Christine and the Queens are lined up to perform for a new benefit concert this weekend. Puza Snigdha reports.

The concert ‘Global Goal: Unite for Our Future’ aims to raise awareness on how the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted marginalized communities across the globe. It is set to take place on 27 June.

The concert will feature performances by Miley Cyrus, Shakira, J Balvin, Justin Bieber and Quavo, Jennifer Hudson, Coldplay, Usher, Christine and the Queens, Chloe x Halle, and Yemi Alade. Billy Porter, Hugh Jackman and many others. The event will be hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosting.

Here are some statement from the performers:

  • Miley Cyrus said: “This moment requires all of us to act. As Global Citizens, we’re calling on leaders around the world to combat the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has on marginalized communities by committing funds to develop and deliver tests, treatments, and therapeutics,”
  • Shakira said: “Global Citizens around the world are calling on world leaders to help bring an end to COVID-19 by urging them to commit the billions of dollars needed to deliver testing, treatments and vaccines to everyone, everywhere. We need health equity and global justice, and we know that only by uniting to fight for the world we want can we build back toward a healthier future for all.”
  • Salena Gomez said: “Hearing from more female writers and directors is very much needed. Natalie is a wonderful talent and I am happy to be a part of her debut film. I understand people’s concerns regarding returning to activities we all loved prior to COVID-19. I hope everyone will listen to scientists’ recommendations and consider others’ health and safety while enjoying the movie theatre experience.”
