Elvis: 68' Comeback Special Returns to Cinema for 1 Day Only

A true icon, Elvis Presley was a star in his own right. 1968 was a particularly special year for the singer, who decided to feature in a television special at this time to mark his much-welcomed return with an intimate gig.
Excitingly, this special will be available to watch in over 250 UK cinemas on 16 August for one-day only. In light of this occasion we were lucky enough to watch the film ahead of its release.
The story behind the special offers exclusive insight into Elvis’s comeback courtesy of two individuals who knew him personally: Priscilla Presley and Steve Binder. It covers everything from the show’s musical choices to Elvis’s wardrobe decisions, style influences and political impacts.
With its mix of music clips, interview extracts, archived images and comedic elements, this varied selection of footage makes for entertaining viewing. It has interesting anecdotes which provides an intimate look into the special show that reintroduced Elvis into the limelight.
It offers a breakdown of the show, including behind the scenes information and involvement from industry professionals (regarding the creative processes), whilst also touching on Elvis’s opinions throughout. Priscilla’s encouragement and inquisition makes this introductory segment even more intriguing.
The show itself provides just what you would expect from the comeback special: distinct vocals, energetic performances, great production and, of course, Elvis’s supercool stage presence. The song-list for the gig, as many may already know, was well chosen and included slow paced songs as well as boppy beats, making for enjoyable viewing for both Elvis aficianados and music lovers alike.
The tracks incorporated many a classic, from the touching ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ to the punchy ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and the infectiously upbeat ‘Hound Dog’.
