English musician Ed Sheeran has donated £170,000 to his former school Thomas Mills School in Framlingham, to help provide key equipment for students and teachers. Dipto Paul reports.
Over two years, Sheeran has made donations to his former school to ensure that students have access to key equipment that will aid their learning and studies.
Equipment such as MacBooks, cameras and even a photography darkroom are included under this donation.
According to a report published from the charity’s trustees: “Following grants to Thomas Mills School, this has enabled them to successfully upgrade their Art, IT and Music rooms for students to improve their educational performance”.
“Soundproofing, a new photography studio and several high-end composition and recording software programs have been purchased and installed.”
School director of music Richard Hanley said: “Pupils and staff at this school are fortunate to have a benefactor who knows and appreciates the value of the arts in education, how important they are and how they can indeed change lives.”
Aldeburgh Hospital League of Friends and a local primary school also received donation from Sheeran.
Earlier this week, Ed Sheeran tops the ranks of Britain’s richest young musicians with an estimated wealth of 200 million pounds.
