This week marks Refugee Week in the Midlands, and to highlight this occasion, a number of events have been developed across June to raise awareness and encourage improvements.
One of these specially arranged events is ‘Different Pasts, Shared Futures’, which is an exhibition documenting the reality of those in flight from persecution & war and the challenges faced by the resilient individuals forced to re-build their lives in a foreign country.
The purpose of this event is to allow people to re-think their stance on freedom and take more of a thoughtful approach to refugees and the troubles they encounter.
‘Different Pasts, Shared Futures’ centres on the core themes of identity, migration and integration. It will take place at the Light House Media Centre in Wolverhampton and will present works from established local artists, newcomers, community groups and schools.
The resources and workshops have been made possible by funding from Creative Black Country and Barrow Cadbury Trust. This wonderfully eye-opening exhibit runs until 30 June and will allow anyone who visits to reflect on the simple act of ‘welcoming’ people and its positive effect on the community.
