‘Demon Slayer’ studio indicted for tax evasion

The Japanese animation studio behind the hit anime series ‘Demon Slayer’ has been accused of tax evasion, avoiding taxes worth about 1.2 million dollars. Sanjida Tanmoy reports.

According to a report, the studio, Ufotable, and Kondo Hikaru covered roughly ¥137million incorporate and consumption tax between September 2014 and August 2018. The company was formally charged on July 9.

Ufotable founder Hikaru Kondo has also been prosecuted without the studio’s total earn. Kondo left as studio president in 2019.
In a statement, Ufotable has to apologize to all the fans and supporters of the studio’s work on its official website. The studio also said that they will return and pay the remaining “full amount” and go forward with laws and regulations.

Ufotable also owns and runs some cafes and restaurants in several cities across Japan, Osaka, and Tokyo besides anime production.

The movie, “Kimetsu no Yaiba” in Japanese, was released last year and became the country’s highest-grossing film of all time.
An official teaser for the anime’s next chapter, ‘The Entertainment District Arc’, was released last week, completed with English subtitles.

The highly anticipated second season of Demon Slayer will be announced on July 13 at the Aniplex channel on YouTube.
