Delivery Mishap Shuts Down KFC Stores in UK

646 KFC stores in the UK have been temporarily shut due to a chicken shortage.
The shortage resulted from a mishap on KFC’s delivery partner DHL, which has been handling the food distribution market in the UK.
As of Monday only 338 of KFC’s 900 stores were kept open. The chain stated they aim not to “compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed and others are operating a limited menu or shortened hours.”
In a deal struck last year, KFC changed their delivery partnership from Bidvest Logistics to DHL. This problem has come only after months of their delivery partnership with DHL.
DHL acknowledged the problem and released a statement saying, “Due to operational issues a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed”.
“We are working with KFC and our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused”, the company said in their statement.
According to statements from KFC, they have “brought a new delivery partner on board, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex”.
The closure of stores has led to complaints and ridicule from KFC’s customers. The company apologised to their customers who were disappointed with the store closure and had faced inconvenience from this.
An announcement on Saturday used humour to address this issue, stating “The chicken crossed the road, just not to our restaurants” and assured their customers that, “the Colonel is working on it”.
