The world is racing to find a vaccine for Covid-19. Top Scientists and researchers have agreed that a vaccine would be the most effective weapon to fight the new disease but it won’t be able to completely eliminate it. Anika Khan reports.
As of record, six possible vaccines from China, 2 from the US, Oxford, and Germany are going through the final third stage of clinical-trial procedures with Russia becoming the first one to approving their vaccine to the public
The first batches of their vaccines are currently taken to Mexico for large scale testing. Concerns and questions have arisen claiming that the vaccine created by Russian scientists has not been put through all the trial procedures that are required to ensure safety.
Furthermore, all the Vaccine projects are being funded by the individual states and represented by international co-operations. So as we all are expecting and waiting for a fruitful result, we should be aware that these vaccines may be very expensive once they are out in the market.
China has declared that once the vaccine has gone through all the safety trials it will be a global public good. On the other hand Vaccine projects under Trump’s administration refuses to collaborate with WHO China and the EU to develop a vaccine. The British government has also been striking deals with to avail the vaccines they are available. However, we need to wait and see how things pan out.
The countries with the worst living standards, poor health care, and sanitization are amongst the hardest hits. Once a vaccine has gone successfully through all the trials is out, rich countries and giant corporations need to help to make it accessible to the rest of the world.
We are fighting a global pandemic and it is now more than ever that we should put in saving human lives over profits and political agendas. Only through solidarity can we fight Covid-19
