Companies That Fail to Reveal Gender Pay Gap Will Face Legal Proceedings

The Equality and Human Rights Commission have reiterated that companies with more than 250 employees are obliged by law to reveal their gender pay gap and that not doing so could result in court action.
All the companies that meet the description are meant to report on the gap between the wages and bonuses that male and female employees receive and post figures on the Government Equalities website by 4 April.
Over 5,000 companies on the list of those that should be supplying a report on their gender pay gap have yet to provide information.
Reports that have been supplied by the remaining companies have brought to light that there is still discrepancies in how much men and women earn.
These companies have been warned that if they do not meet the deadline they will be publicly named and will face legal action. They will receive a written warning and if they still fail to supply a report they will be taken to court, face unlimited fines and will be publicly shamed.
“Let me be very very clear: failing to report is breaking the law,” said the leader of the equality watchdog, Rebecca Hilsenrath.
“We have the powers to enforce against companies who are in breach of these regulations. We take this enormously seriously. We have been very clear that we will be coming after 100% of companies that do not comply.”
