China’s sanctions on Taiwan: US’s Punishment

Feature Photo 5

China is imposing sanctions on Taiwan in order to give the US a punishment. China has now issued visa bans and several other sanctions on Tuesday. The restrictions are imposed on seven Taiwanese political figures. Taiwan stands as a self-governing island that has much pressure due to the constant visits by the US. There had been a prior restriction that China has imposed on the US as Pelosi visited Taiwan. These sanctions are imposed by China a day after it announced more military exercises in the sea and sky.
These restrictions were announced the same day when a US congressional delegation met with Tsai Ing-wen, the Taiwanese President. This is similar to the visit that Pelosi has taken forth. Pelosi has been the highest-level member of the US government to visit Taiwan in 25 years. The Chinese government shares its opinion by objecting Taiwan to keeping any relations with the foreign government. It has been said that the other foreign governments which have visited Taiwan think of it as their territory. The recent past is exemplary of chaos when it has been threatened to take the island of Taiwan under military control.

China’s sanctions on Taiwan: US’s Punishment

The congressional delegation which visited Taiwan earlier this month, the US reports that this is something to which China has overreacted with its provocative response while imposing sanctions which was not necessary. The sanctions are imposed on Taiwan’s de facto ambassador to the US, Bikhim Hsiao, Legislators Ker Chien-ming, Koo Li-hsiung, Tsai Chi-chang, Chen Jiau-hua, and Wang Ting-yu along with the activist Lin Fei-fan. They have been restricted to travel to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. The Work Office of the Communist Party of Taiwan mentions that any financial or personal connections with people and other entities on the mainland are barred.
The consequences will shower on those as resolute punishment who are to demean Taiwan’s independence. Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and the leader of the legislature You Si-kun were on China’s list and it will pose more restrictions on them. China is not legally governing Taiwan so, in that case, it’s still not clear what effect these sanctions will bring.
