Chester Bennington‘s widow Talinda Bennington speak up about the warning signs the Linkin Park singer showed before he took his own life last year.
Mrs. Bennington says she is more educated about what to look for now, including hopelessness, change of behavior, and isolation. In her home life, “sometimes, some signs were there more than others. Sometimes, they weren’t there at all”.
In the wake of the suicides of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, Talinda Bennington has continued speaking out about mental health and suicide prevention where she believes there were warning signs before her husband killed himself last July.
“If we can find good coping mechanisms, if we have people we trust that we can talk to, that helps us make better choices for ourselves. My husband didn’t have that in a lot of situations”.
The most “terrifying” thing for Bennington is that her husband was the happiest the day before he committed suicide, telling Cooper, “This was not a time where we or any of our family suspected this to happen, which is terrifying… We thought everything was okay.”
The musician was open about his troubled life, his struggles with drugs and alcohol and his sufferings of sexual abuse as a child.
“If we can find good coping mechanisms, if we have people we trust that we can talk to, that helps us to make better choices for ourselves,” the widow said. “And my husband didn’t have that in a lot of situations.”
“It’s a lifetime of building blocks to unhealthy emotional, mental behavior, emotional pain,” Bennington described.
