CAKE INTERNATIONAL: THE CREATIVE CRAFT SHOW

It was with a considerable degree of anticipation that I set out to attend this year’s Cake International/Creative Craft Show.

I had never been before and for the purpose of assisting me to give a fair and accurate review, I took along my wife, who is highly skilled in both baking and various forms of crafts. The whole thing was a fascinating experience and it was great to see the wide variety of talent that our country has in both aspects of the event. We began with the Creative Craft Show and worked our way systematically through the aisles, seeing the different skills involved in creating everything from clothing to games.  It was interesting to talk to exhibitors, the vast majority of whom were friendly and approachable and we also made some very worthwhile and useful purchases along the way.

Moving on, we weaved our way around Cake International and again, it was amazing to view the baking skill involved, with so many different colors and styles of cake, representing a wide range of designs. Standards were incredibly high and I had to feel sympathy with those who had gone to so much trouble, only to be disqualified on a small technicality, or even worse, to have had their creation damaged in transit. As someone who has a taste for good quality cake, the whole scene looked very appetizing, as well as pleasing to the eye.

This proved to be a very interesting and enjoyable first-time visit and it was clear that a lot of hard work had gone into the organization and presentation. I look forward to attending in the future and one thing that I hope is that the N.E.C. itself will have clearer signage in terms of the location of the event. My wife requires a wheelchair for occasions such as this and negotiating our way along the corridors as we attempted to find the correct halls was challenging at times. Nonetheless, an excellent event and well worth attending. I am grateful to the organizers for the opportunity.
