Cafe Rouge were kind enough to invite us to try out their wonderfully festive Christmas Menu. Here are some of the delicious menu options we were lucky enough to sample!
TURKEY BALLOTINE
This dish was a real highlight – roast turkey wrapped in bacon with a sage and onion stuffing. This was a winning combination, with the stuffing complimenting the perfectly roasted turkey. It also came with a myriad of other delectable sides: honey roasted parsnips, pigs in blankets and duck fat roast potatoes. All were very rich in flavour, leaving us wanting more!
CONFIT DE CANARD
A slow-cooked Brittany duck leg with pommes Anna, mixed greens and a choice of either cherry or orange sauce – another classic dish with a contemporary twist. The duck was faultlessly slow-cooked; being both juicy and tender. I also went for the orange sauce which gave a terrific citrusy zest and added that bit of exoticism which made it a well-rounded dish, and was very much enjoyed by all!
CHOCOLATE & CHESTNUT TORTE
As a chocolate lover, this dish certainly satisfied my sweet palate. Accompanied by a morello cherry compote, this combination of chocolate, chestnut and cherry balanced each other excellently. The chocolate was rich and the chestnut flavour added some Christmas warmth, with the morello cherry finishing it off with a sharp and sweet tang! A delightful end to our meal.
Thank you to Cafe Rouge for a delicious set of festive dishes!
