Bohemian Rhapsody: Rami Malek Won a Golden Globes for Best Actor

The versatile actor and “Mr. Robot” star, Remi Malek won a Golden Globe on Sunday night as “best actor” for his outstanding portrayal of Freddie Mercury at Bohemian Rhapsody where this highest-grossing music biopic of all time, won the Golden Globe for “Best Picture”, Drama.
The actor was up against Bradley Cooper, John David Washington, Lucas Hedges and Willem Dafoe for the best actor honor.
“Oh my god, I am beyond moved,” said Malek at the podium. “My heart is pounding out of my chest. This is a profound honor to be counted among such extraordinary actors, I am privileged. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and to everyone who worked so tirelessly on this film”.
Though Sacha Baron Cohen was set to star in a Queen biopic, but Cooper was widely considered to be Malek’s toughest competition for the prize, but the HFPA ended up falling for Malek’s physical transformation into Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
In his acceptance speech on Sunday, Malek did not thank Singer, but instead paid tribute to Queen and said he was “beyond moved” to have won.
“To you, Brian May, to you, Roger Taylor, for ensuring that authenticity remains in the world,” he said. Both May and Taylor attended the ceremony.
The film marked Malek’s biggest film breakthrough yet, although he has an Emmy for Best Actor Drama under his belt thanks to his work on the USA drama series “Mr. Robot.”
Malek has previously been nominated for Golden Globes for his role in TV’s Mr. Robot but has never won. Although many have criticized the film’s portrayal of Mercury’s sexuality, it performed well at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing music biopic of all time.
